Winter Boom Cards and January centers reinforce fact fluency and literacy for both distance learning and in-school teaching.
It’s January here in New England, which means it’s winter. As a teacher, this can be the longest and toughest school season to get through. The snow, muck, and cold can drag you down if you are not a snow bunny. It seems like kids are stuck indoors, and they are antsy! Even if there’s no snow, the days are long and often dreary. Here are some fun resources to keep kids engaged, learning, and progressing this winter!
Distance Learning & Boom Cards
Boom Cards have been a great asset for teachers in 2020. Teachers have had to pivot (hopefully gracefully!) to adapt to distance learning. As a result, Boom Cards have exploded in popularity due to remote learning needs. Even if teachers are in the classroom right now (which many are not!), they are still using Boom Cards because of the overwhelming benefits:
For kids:
- Fun
- Engaging
- Self-correcting
- Immediate feedback
Basically, Boom Cards appeal to kids because they are similar to an app. The kids are practicing essential skills in a fun manner.
For teachers:
- No prep
- Something for virtually every skill
- Data about student progress
- Differentiation
Teachers enjoy using Boom Cards for distance learning (AND in the classroom) because they are easy to implement and have no additional work required.

A bonus feature of these decks is the audio instruction! For children who can’t quite read yet or even those with no supervision while distance-learning, the bundle includes verbal directions so the kids can follow along independently!
